USB SSD enclosure killed the board?

Plugged in a USB 3.0 SSD enclosure. HDMI output turned purple. Board will not boot now.

Attached to serial port during boot.

Output was:
Boot firmware version 20160527-1

!*:#)$<@[|{%<$P\;AP;Z:-6KQ>*=(_,%(: .
Pressing the reset button just repeats the above output.

Hi dan.truitt,

This output is from the ROM bootloader, and we'd expect you to see U-Boot shortly after.
  • Is the enclosure still connected to the board?
  • Does the issue persist if you disconnect it?
  • Is the enclosure known-good? (i.e: used with other systems, reputable manufacturer, etc...)

Hi Attie,

There is no change in output when the enclosure is not connected. The same external SSD enclosure works fine on the ST 2199 development board. When I plugged in the enclosure, the HDMI output on screen changed to bright purple.

UBoot does not start.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Attie,

In reviewing the schematic, it looks like the signal USB2_notOC is inverted (ie the signal will be high when there is an OC fault, and low when there is not an OC fault) The transistor inverter circuit isn't present on the USB0 or USB1 port wiring...

Thanks,

Dan

Thanks Dan,

I suspect these signals are inverted by the peripheral configuration, though it's certainly worth confirming this.

We'll contact you directly via email to discuss further.
